How do you get started part II

Alison Randle • 25 March 2026

Especially if the news is grim

Shortly after I wrote the ‘How you start your day’ article in late February, world events took a bit of a turn, prompting the real question about getting started even though things have gone a bit mad. (This article is going online, so I am choosing my words carefully…)

What can we, ordinary people with very little influence, operate when all of that stuff is going on?

The Connection corner of the Vitality Triangle becomes even more vital in times of duress. Connecting to ourselves, our immediate surroundings and to people who matter to us is really helpful.

I believe it is even more important to take care of local things. To influence and control what we can.

How we are. Drinking water and eating nutritious food, going for a walk.

How we interact with others. Smiling. Taking time to listen to one another. Helping one another out.

Doing our work. Most of us have chosen work which makes a difference to others. We can continue to do that.

Smelling the roses. We have small, beautiful things all around us. Taking time to notice and enjoy them is usually helpful.

These are the things that we can influence, regardless of what is happening elsewhere, out of our control or zone of influence.

So how to get started? Begin with something delightful and use that to bounce into work action.

And definitely stay away from eating any frogs.
